There is always so much to tell about a city, that is why I separate my articles into 3 very useful parts:

Best places to eat in Krakow

Oh, this is my favourite part! As I was born in Ukraine, Polish cuisine is very similar to our dishes and I really felt like home eating the national cuisine. Krakow is really a great place to try out Polish food. Moreover, Krakow is full of great, tasty restaurants that are very affordable.

1. Pierogarnia Krakowiacy

This cozy, small place is only a few minute walk from the central market square. Inside you will find traditional Polish decorations and a menu offering the main speciality – Pierogi, which are traditional polish dumplings. You can get them either sweet or sour, and I recommend getting different ones to share. Our favourites were the Russian Pierogi and the Cherry pierogi! For drinks I recommend getting a ‘compot’, which is a drink made from boiling fruits. The place is also super affordable, big portion of dumplings is only 16 ZLT (4 €).

2. Chinkalnia Krakow

I always wonder why Germany has so little Georgian restaurants, so when I travel I always make sure to visit one. It is famous for its bread and meat dishes, the dishes usually come in small plates, so make sure to order several dishes to share. Our favourite is definitely ‘Adjarian Khachapuri’, which is bread baked with cheese and egg. The restaurant is also located in the Kazimierz district, so after a great meal you can walk around the Jewish district or enjoy a stroll by the river.

3. Stara Paczkarni

This place is very small and easy to miss, but you should definitely try their traditional Polish donuts with cream inside. They are so yummy! And they also have original combinations, such as caramelized apples or rose jam πŸ™‚ And they are only 5 ZLT (1 €) each!

4. Czarna Kaczka

This was our place for dinner, make sure to book it in advance as it get really crowded. It is one of the best restaurants in Krakow to try out traditional Polish food in. Their name translates as β€˜Black Duck’, so you can guess what their speciality is πŸ™‚ Their duck is very tasty and comes with a mushroom or cherry sauce. They also have many other dishes to choose from, such as a Duck Carpaccio. Our favourites for dessert was the Creme Brulee assorti and traditional Polish cheesecake. They also have a huge choice of vodkas, if you are up for trying it πŸ™‚ Overall, a really great choice for a relaxed dinner.

5. Karmello

I can never pass a chocolate shop without trying everything inside, so this one is definitely approved by me πŸ™‚ You can get a nice box of different flavoured sweets or truffles for you or for your loved ones. You can either pick up the already made boxes, or choose the flavours yourself.

6. Mr. Pancake

This was one of the places I followed on instagram way before coming to Krakow. They are famous for serving huge pancakes, with sweets, cotton candy and chocolate on top. They also have pizzas, burgers and smoothies, with crazy combinations and very instagrammable looks. For me it was personally too much and too sweet, but my other friends liked this places and recommended to visit at least ones to try πŸ™‚ Also, make sure to check their dayily specials on instagram, such as pizza for 2 €.

7. Stary Kleparz

This is a traditional Polish market, with many sellers of fruit, vegetables and other local produce. It is nice to grab something small for breakfast on your way to town. There was also a very small hidden coffee shop, which was the best coffee we had in Krakow.

8. St. Mary’s Basilica Christmas Market

We were lucky to visit Krakow in December, when the main square has turned into a lovely Christmas market, with many food stalls around. Although, I found the price tag a bit high for Krakow (around 10€ per portion), I still recommend trying their meat dishes if you get the chance. Our favourite was Pork Knuckle.
