Digital Nomads is a bit of a hipster word nowadays, but in the last year with all my travelling & working I realised that is definitely my lifestyle. Me and my husband both work digitally and we love to work in different cafes around the world. I decided to start this blog rather for myself, so that I have the best places always in a list. And maybe somebody else will find it useful too 🙂
So a list of the best coffees, comfy seats, relative quietness and sockets 🙂
Porto, Portugal
Porto is actually not very known as a city for digital nomads, especially compared to the big Lissabon. But that’s exactly why I chose it: it is smaller, more local and has its charm. You can forget about public transport here and just walk everywhere whilst enjoying the beautiful city views and the Douro river. Also compared to Lissabon, a lot of buildings survived the Earthquake in 1755, so you are more likely to see pretty Azuleijos everywhere here.
It is also cheaper and more affordable here, starting with accommodation and ending with cafes. But I might write more later on about why I think Porto is a great city, but let’s get to the cafés first:
Best Cafés for Remote Working, Porto
I was actually surprised by the amount of cafés Porto has to offer for working and also how friendly and relaxed everyone is towards people with laptops. I honestly did not expect this, so this was a major plus 🙂
- FÁBRICA COFFEE ROASTERS PORTO (R. de José Falcão 122, 4050-315 Porto)
This was our go to place in Porto. It is located centrally in the Bolhao area. Here I think we saw the biggest concentration of people working digitally, especially if you come in the morning 🙂
There is plenty of space, quiet space at the back, free good wifi and the baristas are super friendly 🙂
The only drawback is the sockets, there is only a few at the back for macs. But if you ask you can always charge at the bar as well 🙂
Here you can grab coffee, tea, desserts and waffles. My husband rated their cappuccino as the best one in Porto.
Price range:
Cappuccino: 2.80€
Banana cake: 3.50€
Waffles with caramel: 7€
- Combi (R. do Morgado de Mateus nº29, 4000-334 Porto)
Our second favourite place, which is located a bit further away, but still a short walk from the centre.
It is nice and cozy inside, with plenty of sockets and good Wi-Fi.
Here you can grab coffee, smoothies, matcha latte and an amazing brownie with salted caramel.
The only drawback is that the tables are a bit small for two people, but if it is empty inside you can always grab two tables 🙂
Price range:
Cappuccino: 3€
Brownie: 3.50€
Smoothie: 4.5€
- C’alma (R. de Passos Manuel 44, 4000-381 Porto)
A central place to have coffee and work on your laptop. It is very quiet here and the place has a lot of sockets everywhere. They also have ‘coffee flights’ to try, where you can try several different types of coffee at once.
Price range:
Cappuccino: 3€
- Esquires Coffee Porto (R. de 31 de Janeiro 215, 4000-543 Porto)
Another popular place for working or meeting during the day on weekdays. However, I would avoid it on the weekends as it gets crowded with people looking for a brunch. Otherwise big choice of drinks, coffee and food here with an outdoor sitting.
Price range:
Cappuccino: 2.4€
Toasties & Sandwiches: 4-8€
- Mesa 325 (Av. de Camilo 325, 4300-295 Porto)
We haven’t been here personally, but it is recommended around the forums. It is a bit further out of the city, so it depends on the location you are staying in.
- Garden Porto (Rua de Fernandes Tomás 985, 4000-220 Porto)
Very nice and large place to work from, although it also gets very crowded on the weekends (but so does nearly every other place in Porto).
Price range:
Cappuccino: 2€
Matcha latte: 3€
Pancakes & Sandwiches: 6.5-8€
